What is the difference between doing good and not doing evil?

Living life doing good is definitely different from just living life not doing evil. How many times have we said or heard others say that as long as they don't do evil, they are good?

We are not only human beings experiencing life in this planet, we are also spiritual beings having a human experience.

As humans, we can connect with our conscious mind to know that we shouldn't do evil to others, we shouldn't kill, we shouldn't steal, we shouldn't commit adultery, etc. Some think that as long as they stand by the rules, they are in a good place but, is that enough?

As spiritual beings, what we do counts. I strongly believe that there is a reason for us to be in this planet. I believe we are here to learn and become better humans and also help our spirit evolve. One of the ways to help our spirit evolve is by doing good to others. If we only live our lives as humans not doing evil, we are not helping our spirit to evolve and we are vibrating in selfishness. We must do good to others if we want our time on earth to count towards something greater and positive.

do good

When was the last time you did good to others? By doing good I mean, you did something nice for somebody. Doing good can come in a shape of a nice gesture, physical help, moral or financial support, visiting, listening, volunteering, donating, etc.

Now, when was the last time you did good to others without expecting something in return? Doing good to others expecting nothing in return is the real way of doing good because it comes straight from the heart. Doing good from your heart allows you to have a positive vibration and influence people's vibration in a positive way. Do good from your heart with an honest intention of making a difference in people's lives.

I invite you to analyze the reason behind your actions. Whenever you do good to others answer the following questions:

  • Are you doing good because you think you are better than the rest?
  • Are you doing good because you feel you have to save people all the time?
  • Are you doing good because you expect the person to return the favor?
  • Do you expect some kind of recognition for doing good to others?
  • Are you doing good to others so people think that you are a good person?

If you answered YES to any of the previous questions, it is not your heart but your mind (ego) who is in action.

Also, when you do good, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing (Matthew 6:3). This means, do good but don't go telling everyone what you did. Let your heart feel the joy and help your spirit evolve.

These are the challenges we all face:

  • to live doing good from the heart and not from the mind (ego)
  • to vibrate positive (doing good to others) and not selfishly (just living not doing evil)

The good thing is that each day is a new day and if you have been living only not doing evil, you can start doing good today! Make your time in this world count, make a change, be better, evolve, learn.  You could make a big impact in the world by doing good to others.
