Growing up, we all had dreams and felt passionate about something. Remember when you were little, you probably were passionate about world cultures, animals, or certain topics. You probably also had dreams you wanted to come true. Some of us still do, but many of us have forgotten. We have forgotten how it felt to dream about doing great things, going places, acquiring a specific skill, or meeting new people.
Our dreams started to stay behind when we entered the adulthood stage. As adults, we have more responsibilities that take priority. Our dreams become our children's dreams, our partner's dreams, or we just live in auto pilot that we forget to have dreams at all.
Dreams are part of us. They are the ones that help us go on and inject energy and enthusiasm to our lives. Without dreams we feel despair, empty and hopeless. Having dreams has more to do with finding our authentic selves and it is highly connected with our purpose in life. When our actions and thoughts are aligned with our dreams, our dreams can come true. When that happens, we experience joy and happiness.
Imagine having a dream of visiting a foreign country (Italy) and learning a new language (Italian). The idea of going to Italy and being able to communicate with the people brings you joy and excitement. Your dream is only good if you use it as a propulsor and not to live dreaming about the future. You can't live just dreaming in the future because that would keep you away from the present moment which is where happiness is created. Living in the present moment is where you create the things that propel you to get closer to your dreams.
How is that? Well, if your dream is about a trip and a new language, what you can do is start doing something in the present moment that aligns with the desire to one day fulfill your dream. For example, you can enroll in Italian classes, you can create a savings plan that will pay for your trip, you can watch videos about Italy to learn about the country, etc.
Can you see now how having a dream affects your present life? Living for your dreams should feel good. Avoid negative thoughts. Imagine what would happen if you start telling yourself how you will never be able to go to Italy because it is too expensive, that you will never learn a different language because you are too old for that, that by the time you have money it will be too late, and on and on. Your thoughts and actions would not be aligned with your dreams, therefore the dreams will stay as that, as dreams. But, if you align your actions (mentioned before) and you plant positive thoughts in your mind, your dreams are more likely to come true.
Remember your dreams, and inject some enthusiasm to your life. You can also think of new dreams, dreams that you can feel in your heart. Dreams that make you feel joy by just thinking about them coming true. Be careful, make sure they are dreams of your own, not the dreams of the people around you or dreams imposed by other people's suggestions. Dream on and set free!
